Visiting New York City during the holidays can be a bit intimidating. The crowds are larger and there is an endless amount of things to do in the city to get into the holiday spirit. I decided to visit early December and meet up with a friend who lives in Jersey. We like to at least visit each other twice a year, so this year we decided to visit NYC during the holidays and I am going to be sharing some festive places we visited during our trip!
The Greens Rooftop Cabin at Pier 17
The Greens at Pier 17 Rooftop Cabin at The Greens
I was looking through TikTok before our trip and came across a video that was talking about a rooftop cabin you were able to reserve. I did my research and discussed with my friend and we decided to reserve one ourselves! It is near the Brooklyn Bridge at the Seaport District. To make a reservation for your own winter cabin at The Greens you can visit their website and check out different dates. Prices vary based on the date and time you would like to reserve your cabin. We shot for noon on a Monday afternoon.
There are some pros and cons to reserving a cabin at The Greens
We went for lunch and it looked like the menu was the same for lunch and dinner from what it showed on their website. The options were very limited and were not the best. I ordered Mac n Cheese and it was very overpriced for what I received… no seriously… I have had better Mac n Cheese from making it at home myself. My friend ordered a shrimp entree and the portion was extremely small and still did not taste even close to what it should have for the price. If you are looking for a delicious lunch place then I would definitely not recommend eating at The Greens.
The drinks were for sure more promising. I got a glass of champagne for $16 and it was a lot better than the food experience. This cabin reservation is nice if you are looking for the experience rather than a place to eat. The cabin itself was super cozy and private with an indoor heater and digital fireplace. I actually loved the entire setup, and they let you leave your cabin and walk around the rooftop to take photos and enjoy the skyline views.
To sum it up I was disappointed about the food, but the drinks and cabin itself were really nice and had me pleased. If you are thinking about planning a visit with some friends then your best bet is to probably go for a night and enjoy the views and cabin with some drinks and maybe an appetizer.
Bryant Park Holiday Market
Bank of America Skating Rink at Bryant Park Bryant Park
The Holiday Market at Bryant Park is definitely a must do! They have so many local businesses set up all around the park in tiny cabins, and of course hot cocoa and food stands. After doing shopping and maybe grabbing a bite to eat it is essential you sit down near the Bank of America skating rink and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa with the lovely view of the city. The skating rink is actually New York’s only free admission skating rink so the only thing you would need to pay for is the skate rental! You can go on their website to reserve your tickets in advance using this link if you do decide to skate, but unfortunately we did not get to do it.
Rockefeller Tree & Saks Fifth Avenue
Saks Fifth Avenue Rockefeller Tree
These two are pretty obvious choices that everyone has to experience once if they visit NYC during the holidays. The Rockefeller Tree and Saks Fifth Avenue light show are classics and no doubt will get you in the Christmas Spirit. There are a few different angles that you can see the huge tree from, but the front view is the best one for photos and videos. On the other side of the street from the tree is the Saks Fifth Avenue which is super convenient to hit both spots at the same time. The light show runs every 10 minutes starting around sunset and ending around almost midnight. It is about 5 minutes long and is totally worth it! The show was beautiful, and they also play Christmas music that goes along with the show.
Hudson Yards
The Vessel at Hudson Yards Hudson Yards
The Edge was one thing that was on our itinerary during the trip, because we really wanted to see the city views at night and explore Hudson Yards with all the gorgeous Christmas decorations. You can do multiple things at Hudson Yards such as: The Edge, The Vessel, and the shops and restaurants at Hudson Yards. Even if you do not wanna pay for a reservation like The Edge or The Vessel, then going to the indoor mall at Hudson Yards is always an easy fun option. The Holiday decorations are so pretty and the entire indoor mall is pretty much lit up every corner you turn.
